NNR Partnership
The NNR Partnership recommends which of Scotland’s nature reserves deserve the NNR accolade. It considers only the best places to enjoy our rich natural heritage.
Membership
The NNR Partnership is made up of representatives from:
- Community Land Scotland (CLS)
- Forestry and Land Scotland (FLS)
- National Trust for Scotland (NTS)
- Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB Scotland)
- Scottish Land and Estates (SLE)
- NatureScot
- Scottish Wildlife Trust (SWT)
- South Lanarkshire Council (SLC)
- Woodland Trust Scotland (WT)
Decision making
Any landowner, community or organisation interested in gaining the NNR accolade can put their site forward. The NNR Partnership assesses whether proposed sites meet the selection and management criteria for NNRs.
If proposed sites meet the criteria, the Partnership recommends them to NatureScot. Under the National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act 1949 and the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, NatureScot formally declares the Partnership’s recommended sites as NNRs.
